Why should you use video and is it right for you?

Does video fit your learning goal?

What do you want to achieve? Video is best used for knowledge transfer and repetition of content. Unless you want your students to create a video themselves in the context of an assignment, it will be difficult to use video if you want your students to apply, analyse, evaluate or create information. Video is a means to communicate in a visual way. The information or content needs to be suited for being depicted visually.

  • Do you want to stimulate interaction? Then connect an interactive learning activity to your video.
  • An educational video does not stand alone, but it is part of an (online) course or teaching programme, so keep this in mind when deciding to create a video. Make sure your video links to your on-campus class or online learning activities.
