Nominate students for the ECHO Award 2023

18 April 2023

The ECHO Award is for talented students who are working to build a more inclusive society. If you know a suitable candidate, why not nominate them?

The ECHO Award for excellent talent in higher education is the initiative of ECHO Expertise Center Diversity Policy. To be eligible for an ECHO Award, you have to be a Dutch student with roots in Africa, Latin America or Asia (including Indonesia and Japan) or an international student who is part of an underrepresented group in your home context.

Suitable candidates are innovative thinkers and doers with great organisational skills who help make an impact on society. They can be a critical friend when it comes to finding constructive solutions to issues of exclusion.

The prize is a fully catered summer course at UCLA in the United States in 2024.

How to nominate a student

To nominate a student, send an email to the Diversity and Inclusion Expertise Office (EDI) at diversiteit@leidenuniv.nl with the following information:

  • Candidate’s name and email address
  • A brief explanation of why you are nominating the student (ca. 250 words)
  • If possible, the candidate’s CV and a short motivation statement.

The deadline is Thursday 4 May. The EDI will collate the university’s nominations and submit them to ECHO.

The EDI will help the candidates write their full motivation letters and with the other parts of the official submission for the ECHO Awards. For more information about the ECHO Awards and the award ceremony, see the ECHO website. The nomination procedure on the ECHO website differs from the procedure at Leiden University. Please follow the procedure outlined above.

If you have any questions, please contact the EDI at diversiteit@leidenuniv.nl.
