PhD candidates: apply now for Una Europa's Heritage of Conflict Winter School
During the Una Europa Winter School, you will learn about heritage management during and after conflicts. The Jagellonian University in Kraków offers a varied programme in which you will be taught by scholars and experts in the field.
The Winter School takes place from 27 November to 1 December 2023 for PhD candidates from Una Europa universities: an alliance of 11 leading research-intensive universities of which Leiden University is part. Apply before 30 June 2023.
Programme
The programme will focus on heritage and types of conflicts:
- ways to preserve heritage before, during and after war conflicts;
- securing heritage and documenting it using digital tools;
- challenges arising from the sustainable use and management of post–conflict sites for social, economic, and cultural purposes.
Participants will gain the knowledge and competencies needed to conduct research and analysis on types of conflicts in heritage, the legal aspects of heritage protection, the role heritage digitizing and conflict documenting institutions in heritage protection and safeguarding, as well as developing tourism infrastructure that promotes the cultural and historical value of heritage.
Activities during the five–day event will include lectures, panel discussions, workshops, one-to-one seminars and study visits. The classes will be conducted by recognized experts, practitioners and scholars with extensive experience and competence.
