LUF Project Grants - deadline: 10 August 2023

10 July 2023

The Leiden University Fund (LUF) is organising a dedicated application round for researchers in Law, Archaeology and Mathematics & Natural Sciences this autumn. Project grants are made available by specific Named Funds which did not receive any applications in March 2023. These funds subsidise unique scientific research and education projects by Leiden University scientists in an explicitly defined scientific field or theme.

It concerns independent projects with a duration of maximum 3 years and a start date between 1 October 2023 and 1 July 2024. Education projects should focus on long-term innovations or improvements in science education; research projects that could also be a steppingstone for future larger applications to NWO, ERC, or other funds. All researchers are eligible to submit research projects; younger researchers (who have obtained their PhDs no more than 5 years ago) are particularly encouraged to apply for grants.

For Leiden Law School, grants can be awarded to projects that match the following Named Funds:

  • BA Schim van der Loeff Fund

For a project in the field of international law, with a special focus on the position of foreigners. Projects in the field of national and international private law concerning aliens are also eligible (application max. €8,200).

  • Mr.ir. Deisz Barendregt Fund

For research projects and publications with a focus on maritime law, hydraulic engineering law, and construction law, in particular the regulations regarding construction tenders (application max. €2,700).

  • S.J. Visser Fund

To promote the study of the law of nations and private international law (application max. €35,000)

  • Fund Roman Law Southern France

For research into the history and development of Roman law in southern France in the broadest sense and from all disciplines (application max. €12,000).

The Leiden University Fund is the fund of Leiden University. Thanks to support from alumni and other donors, scholars are able to work on pioneering research and students and young researchers are given the opportunity to realise their ambitions. The LUF awards grants for research and education projects, among other things. These project grants (max. €35,000) are intended for young, doctoral researchers. In addition to LUF's general funds, the funds are made available by Named Funds. More information: Academic project grants
