Delay to completion of Spui building in The Hague
Completion of Leiden University’s building at Spui in The Hague will be delayed by at least four months. This means that according to the current schedule, the building should be ready in January 2026 instead of at the start of the 25/26 academic year, as originally planned. The delay is due to the building’s complexity and the new interior design wishes.
Solutions for students
Given this delay, we are currently working hard to provide alternative spaces for our students. The Stichthage building near Centraal Station will be rented for longer and we are looking for suitable locations for larger lectures. This should have the smallest possible impact on our students and staff, so these locations need to be within walking distance of public transport and other Campus The Hague buildings.
New Campus The Hague bachelor’s programmes from September 2025
From September 2025, two new Dutch-taught bachelor’s programmes will start in The Netherlands (subject to accreditation): ‘Economie en Samenleving’ and ‘Cyber Security and Cybercrime’. These programmes were supposed to start in the Spui building. We are looking at whether they can begin at Wijnhaven or another location. The university aims to ensure that these groups of new bachelor’s students will get off to a flying start.
