Making your research relevant to policymakers is increasingly seen as a valuable skill in academia. In this session, Vanessa Newby will provide a summary of key learnings from the ’Bridging the Gap’ programme at the American University in Washington.

In this session PhD candidates will learn about (1) the types of policy outlets to approach, (2) how to approach different policy outlets with policy pieces and (3) how to translate research findings into policy pieces.
All FGGA PhD candidates have received an invitation for this session via e-mail. The session takes place in room 2.19 in Wijnhaven, but online participation is possible via the MS Teams link in the invite. The session is followed by drinks.
About the ’Bridging the Gap’ programme
The Bridging the Gap International Policy Summer Institute is a five-day professional development program for professors (all ranks) and post-docs in the field of international affairs who want to build the tools and networks to produce and disseminate policy-relevant academic research. The Institute delivers an intensive curriculum designed to teach participants how to develop and articulate their research for a policy audience, what policy-makers are looking for when they look to scholarship on international issues, whom to target when sharing research, and which tools and avenues of dissemination are appropriate.
