Data Management Training Leiden Law School
This training aims to familiarize PhD candidates with the basic concepts of research data management (RDM) and FAIR data. It will also focus on the most important aspects of RDM specifically related to qualitative and quantitative data, privacy, and open science. It will help participants draft the first version of their data management plan (DMP).

Description
This training is organized for all new PhD candidates of Leiden Law School. The training is offered in collaboration with the Centre for Digital Scholarship (CDS) at Leiden University Libraries. The training touches upon all aspects of research data management, with examples drawn from the research taking place at Leiden Law School. During the training, participants will write their own data management plan.
Mode of instruction
The training will introduce the principles and best practices of responsible data management with a focus on working with research data in law. The training will also have sessions on qualitative and quantitative data, privacy, and data archiving.
Researchers are required to have a DMP before they start data collection. It is also needed for the PhD evaluation meeting held at the end of the first year, and to apply for ethics review.
The training will take place in-person at Leiden University.

- 1st Session: Tuesday October 20th 2026, 09:30-12:30
- 2nd Session: Tuesday October 27th 2026, 09:30-12:30
- DMPs due: Tuesday November 17th 2026

As part of this training, you will write your DMP.
Registration
Please register and let us know what kind of research you will carry out:

Please indicate when registering if you will not be able to attend one of the sessions.
Presence
Participation in this course is obligatory for employed PhD candidates and contract PhDs.
It is recommended that external (non-funded) PhD candidates attend the training. However, it is not mandatory.
Other researchers and staff members who would like to learn more about data management are also welcome to join.
