ICT and education
With the Learning@LeidenUniversity vision, Leiden University is committed to 'The Blended University', where digital resources and support enrich education. Here you will find information on the use of educational tools, the digital learning environment, and answers to questions such as: How do I apply blended learning? What are the guidelines for AI? And which systems support my educational administration?
Blended learning
This didactic concept combines online learning activities with face-to-face education on campus. Students acquire knowledge independently via the online environment, creating more room for in-depth discussion and interaction during meetings.
AI in education
Generative AI offers new possibilities for education but also requires responsible use and clear frameworks. On this page, you will find guidelines, the university strategy, and practical guidance for the use of AI tools.
Digital tools
Specific tools are available for various educational goals, such as Zoom for online lectures, MS Teams for collaboration, and Kaltura for videos. You can easily check via the Toolpicker which applications are safe and permitted within the university.
Tools for interactive learning
Increase student engagement during lectures with interactive tools such as Wooclap for live polls and quizzes. You can also use tools like FeedbackFruits and Pitch2Peer to organize (peer) feedback and video assignments.
Digital assessments
From formative practice tests to summative exams: here you will find information about the assessment process and the new assessment platform Ans. You can also read how to apply plagiarism checks via Turnitin and how to get support with digital grading.
Brightspace, the digital learning environment
Brightspace is the central digital learning environment where you set up the structure of your course, share study materials, and communicate with students. The platform forms the basis for your course and offers links to various other educational tools.
Lecture halls and computer rooms
In the lecture halls, you can use modern AV facilities for presentations and (hybrid) education. In addition, computer rooms with specific software are available, which you can reserve for digital teaching or assessment.
IT systems
For the organization of education, you use information systems such as uSis for student administration and grades, and the Prospectus (Studiegids) for course descriptions. You will also find access to your timetables here and information about the room overview.
Support for online teaching
