We invite you to a conversation with Dr Joas Wagemakers, associate professor of Islamic and Arabic Studies in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at Utrecht University. Dr Wagemakers researches the intellectual history of modern Islam, with a focus on political thinking among Islamists, and will share with Leiden students and faculty his insights on Islamist discourses in light of the latest escalation of violence in Palestine/Israel.

The discussion group will be based on the background readings listed below. After a short introduction, we will engage in conversation about Islamist discourses up to and in light of the war in Israel/Palestine. Please come prepared with your questions and thoughts.
