Transparency of Research Integrity Committees in Europe
Across Europe, countries handle allegations of research misconduct in very different ways. While all systems share principles of honesty and accountability, they differ in how cases are investigated, who oversees them, and what is made public. This lack of transparency makes mutual learning difficult and complicates cross-border cases.
Although research integrity is often viewed separately from Open Science, openness in handling misconduct reflects the same core philosophy. Just as Open Science promotes sharing data and methods to build trust, transparent research integrity procedures can strengthen confidence in the scientific system and demonstrate accountability.
In this OS Coffee session, I will discuss ongoing work comparing national frameworks across Europe and exploring how openness and transparency can improve research integrity governance. The project aims to develop an interactive online platform that maps all European systems, fostering collaboration and shared learning among Research Integrity Officers and institutions.
