Yaroslav Hrytsak is Historian and public intellectual at the Ukrainian Catholic University, Lviv. Professor Hrytsak’s popular history of Ukraine has appeared in English as Ukraine: The Forging of a Nation (2023). Among his many other works is an acclaimed study of the life of Ivan Franko, a prominent writer, scholar, journalist, and leader in the forging of modern Ukrainian national identity in the late nineteenth century.
The speaker will be interviewed on the history of Ukraine, the country’s political development since independence and the impact of the Russian invasion of 2022 by Karel Berkhoff, Professor by special appointment of History of Ukraine in the Twentieth Century, and Senior Researcher at NIOD Institute for War, Holocaust and Genocide Studies.
The meeting will be chaired by dr. Eric Storm, senior lecturer European History and author of Nationalism: A World History (2024).
