The first illustrated flora of the Netherlands, titled Flora Batava, was an early and highly successful citizen science project. More than 400 people contributed data on species occurrence, flowering dates, common names, and medical uses. Among these contributors, 52 women had an especially important role in gathering information related to mushrooms and other fungi. This talk will discuss some of the plants and people involved in this unique series, focusing on women and their extensive contribution to the study of mushrooms and other fungi.
