Real estate
Leiden University has extensive real estate. Our Real Estate Directorate is responsible for realising and maintaining all university buildings. If you wish to make modifications to a building, you have to take into account a number of agreements.
Construction, renovation and light maintenance
The University Real Estate Directorate acts as owner in terms of the construction of new and the maintenance and renovation of existing buildings. Faculties and departments act as renters. They are responsible for light (rental) maintenance such as indoor painting, replacing flooring and other minor adjustments. To prevent confusion regarding maintenance, the demarcation list (Dutch only) specifies who is responsible for what.
Procurement Law
Due to their scope, large-scale construction and renovation projects fall under the Procurement Law. The Real Estate Directorate is responsible for this tendering. The Directorate is also responsible for purchasing real estate-related services from architects, advisors and maintenance companies.
Advice regarding accommodation requirements
If you have particular wishes regarding equipment or the design of a specific space, please contact the Real Estate Directorate. They can advise you on your accommodation requirements.
