Report: The Optimisation of the Use of Satellite Information in the Humanitarian Domain: Legal and Space-Related Developments

In February 2023, the International Institute of Air and Space Law and the Kalshoven-Gieskes Forum for International Humanitarian Law organised a seminar on the topic of 'The optimisation of the use of satellite information in the humanitarian domain – Legal and space-related developments' at Leiden Law School.

The seminar focused on the use of information obtained by satellites as evidence in the context of humanitarian conflicts. It addressed technical perspectives related to the collection and validation of satellite information, legal and policy aspects concerning the use and dissemination of satellite information, and institutional constraints in the nexus between satellite data and international criminal law. The invited speakers represented academia, the space industry, and international organisations.

Here you can find the initial report and the final report of the seminar.
