I joined LACDR in April 2023, half month before Lia Hinne retired, who showed me the “handleiding” about the work and shared her wonderful spirit with me. Although Lia was a colleague of a very short period, I’m grateful and miss her a lot!
Favorite childhood memory:
One memory was about the Buddhist rituals and traditional ceremonies, especially during Chinese Spring Festival, when both my late grandparents were busy with a lot of preparation work. Busier the adults, happier the kids. It was a carefree period and special family festival experience.
Another one was during the period of “we were poor but happy”. In my primary school, I joined the school athlete team and trained every morning with other kids. The coach was a school teacher and he felt sorry that he could not offer better treats, but only a freshly-made salty soymilk drink from the marketplace. The hardship of getting up, the sore muscles, the sweat, the joy of training with friends, the noise and smell of the marketplace, the sincere and innocent look of the teacher, all mingled together and formed something internally. Those trainings by the way, later lead to my 6 times javelin championship in my middle school sports competitions.
When I am off:
I like to enjoy this mundane world: going out with family and friends, shopping, dining out, playing mahjong, tennising, cooking complicated dishes, and singing Karaoke and forcing the loved ones to listen to. When there is a higher level of spiritual need, such a solitude, running on the elliptical machine is my usual choice, with the by-product of loosing a bit of weight.
Good habit:
I’m quite organized person. If there is a goal, I make a plan for it and try all means to follow and accomplish it.
Bad habit:
I find myself spending more time on the mobile phone. Sometimes I watch social media with my kids, with the idea that if we can’t get rid of it, then have it under monitor. Partially, it’s an excuse.
