Rudi van Maanen receives Cornelis Joppenszoon statuette

Emeritus Professor Rudi van Maanen has received the Cornelis Joppenszoon statuette. He was presented with the distinction by Deputy Mayor of Leiden, Julius Terpstra.

Van Maanen was a member of the Leiden Street Names Committee for 25 years. During this time, he worked with Marijke Mooijaar to review all street sign inscriptions in the city centre and wrote a historical explanation for each sign. Van Maanen has now stepped down from the committee, and awarded the Cornelis Joppenszoon Statuette in recognition of his work over this long period.

About the Distinction

The Cornelis Joppenszoon Distinction is awarded annually to an individual who has served the municipality of Leiden in a special way. Van Maanen's colleague Marijke Mooijaar had previously received the distinction when she left the street names committee after eighteen years of service.
