Former lecturer Wim Timmermans appointed Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau

Wim Timmermans, a former lecturer at Leiden Law School, has been appointed Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau. He was awarded this prestigious honour, among other things, for his outstanding contributions in the field of Russian and East European law.

Contributions to Russian and East European law

Throughout his entire career, Wim Timmermans has played an important role in the development and sharing of knowledge on  Russian and East European law. He was afffiliated with Leiden University from 1984 to 2013 as a member of the Faculty of Law, lecturing at the former Institute of East European Law and Russian Studies.

Timmermans received the royal honour also for his service to society, including his many contributions to the local religious community.

Continuing his work

Although Wim Timmermans left Leiden University in 2013, he remains involved in the field of Russian and East European law. From 2019 to 2024, he was chairman of the Dutch-Russian Law Association and helped promote fair justice and human rights. His passion and commitment to this field remain as strong as ever, as evidenced by his recent participation as a speaker at a faculty event in honour of emeritus professor of Russian law/East European law Ferdinand Feldbrugge. This meeting was to mark the occasion of Feldbrugge receiving his PhD 50 years earlier.

Timmermans is currently working at Timmermans & Simons International Business Lawyers.

Leiden University warmly congratulates Wim Timmermans with this well-deserved decoration and is proud of his lasting contributions to Russian and East European law.
