Throwback to the End of the Academic Year Event on May 8: good food and good company
On May 8, the Faculty of Archaeology celebrated its yearly End of Academic Year Event. The event was a chance for staff and students to mingle, while enjoying a nice meal together.
Global and regional impact
The End of Academic Year Event was opened by our Dean Jan Kolen. In a short speech he reminded the attendees that the Faculty of Archaeology now features as number 4 on the QS World University Ranking by Subject. Only three British universities rank higher.
Not only is the Faculty of Archaeology a globally renowned center for archaeological education and research, we also make a regional impact. Jan Kolen noted the longstanding collaboration with the municipality of Oss, as well as partnerships with the provinces of Gelderland, Utrecht, and Zeeland, in the project Heritage Quest. Aside from government institutions, the Faculty also joins forces with partners from the cultural sector, like the National Museum of Antiquities, the Naturalis Biodiversity Center, and the Cultural Heritage Agency.

Upcoming events
Jan Kolen emphasised the upcoming events that will further put the Faculty of Archaeology on the map: a Pop-up ArcheoHotspot on October 22, as part of the Lustrum year celebrations of Leiden University. Especially welcome on this day are the families and friends of staff and students. Furthermore, the Dean touched upon the Annual Meeting of the European Association of Archaeologists, that will take place in Leiden in 2027. The preparations for this event will soon start.
Good food
After Jan Kolen's welcome speech, the Faculty community symbolically concluded the academic year in the sun-bathed terrace or in the Reuvens Hall. The attendees enjoyed a vegetarian/vegan Indonesian rice table or BBQ as well as drinks. This does not mean that holidays are upon us now, however. In practice, many of our students and staff still have (field) work to do.
We wish everyone a successful end to the academic year and a good summer with great fieldwork projects and/or holidays!
