The Knowledge Orchard: programme announced, registration open

The programme for the interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary event The Knowledge Orchard has been announced. This anniversary event consists of more than 20 sessions aimed at providing you with practical next steps in your interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary work. Register now!

Expanding knowledge, inspiring, supporting and expanding your network, thereby taking your interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary work in the field of research and education to the next level. That is the goal of The Knowledge Orchard, a new event taking place on Friday 28 November at PLNT Leiden.

Morning programme for Leiden staff, afternoon programme also for external guests's middags ook voor externe gasten

The day is split into two parts: in the morning, all Leiden University staff are welcome. Whether you're a (prospective) PhD student, researcher, lecturer, administrator or support staff, you can take your interdisciplinary work to the next level through a lively, varied programme (language English) with all kinds of sessions and locations. In the afternoon (language Dutch), we invite external participants to explore where we can take first or next steps in transdisciplinary collaboration.

Morning: from fruitful co-creation to teaching skills

Here’s a small selection from the morning programme: keynote speaker Jolanda Lindenberg playfully explores the definitions of “multi-, inter- and transdisciplinary” with all participants. After that, all participants can choose to visit different sessions. Laurens Hessels provides researchers with strategies to make co-creation processes more fruitful for all involved. The ICLON gives tips on didactic and pedagogical skills for teachers in interdisciplinary education programmes. And the Leiden Leadership Centre discusses the leadership qualities required for interdisciplinary research and education programmes. During a continuous information market, you will meet various teams within the university who can help you with their expertise and support.

Afternoon: AI, health and resilient society

In the afternoon, we invite representatives from municipalities, provinces and relevant social partners (programme in Dutch). In three separate sessions, we discuss opportunities for collaboration on three specific themes:

1. How is AI changing the role of (local, provincial and national) government in relation to citizens? What are the opportunities and risks?

2.    Health and the physical environment – how can we design the physical environment to improve citizens' health?

3.    Resilient society – how can governments prepare (better) for acute disasters (such as cyber attacks and environmental disasters)?

In addition, we will look at inspiring examples and options for transdisciplinary collaboration in various sessions.

The Knowledge Orchard promises to be a celebration of meeting and exchange; more than 170 people, both from Leiden University and external partners, have already indicated their interest in the event by pre-registering. Curious? You can find the details of the programme and registration here.

About De Kennisboomgaard: take the next step in your interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary collaboration

When: Friday 28 November
Where: PLNT Leiden, Langegracht 70 Leiden

The promise of interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary collaboration – in which scientists from different fields “mix” with each other or in which scientists and partners outside the university walls join forces – is an attractive one. By working together, you can make more progress in creating solutions to complex problems. And you get to know each other's worlds, language and issues better. As a broad-based university, Leiden is ideally suited to this type of collaboration.

But the truth is that shaping these collaborations is not easy. It often takes time to get to know each other and learn to speak each other's language. There is also a wealth of knowledge and experience in the field of interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research and education within the university, but it is not always easy to find the right person or party to retrieve that information.

The Knowledge Orchard, an anniversary event organised by Leiden University, aims to increase your knowledge, inspire you and help you where possible. In this way, it will take you a step further in your interdisciplinary or transdisciplinary work.
