FGGA 's Follow-up Strategy Plan 2026–2030: How are things going? (Part 6)

As you know, the faculty is working on a new follow-up strategy with six themes. Each theme now has its own writing team. Every week we speak with one of these teams about their work, and share the highlights. On this page you can find the current article and an overview of all articles on the follow-up strategy. This week's theme: The campus as a work environment led by Bram Klievink.

Which colleagues are in your group?

We are working on this component with a small but diverse group. Without mentioning names, someone from the faculty office is involved and all institutes are represented by people from different positions (OBP, PhD candidate, lecturer).

Can you tell us something about the theme you are working on?

The theme Campus as a working environment is about how we use and experience the campus: as a professional community, academic home base and meeting place. The interaction between culture and working environment is central to this. Core values are connection, autonomy and shared responsibility. So we don't just look at bricks and mortar and workplaces, but also at how we work together, meet each other, and how well-being, inclusion and collegiality are incorporated into this.

How does your theme fit within the broader strategic development of the faculty?

A pleasant and inclusive working environment is an important foundation for good education, strong research and social connection. By making it clearer how we work and interact with each other on and around campus, we support those broader strategic goals.

Do you expect much will change compared to the current situation?

No major break, but more clarity. Much is already happening, but we want to make joint principles more explicit, for example around hybrid working, good use of space, meeting and collaboration on campus.

How do you see these changes being realised?

I see the realisation primarily as a joint learning and development process. This requires dialogue and reflection, but also clarity, good facilities and processes. Culture and working environment develop hand in hand. As they always have, for that matter. The faculty strategy now provides a concrete moment to reflect on where that has brought us and what needs to be strengthened.

In what ways can colleagues be involved?

We collectively form the campus, so everyone is involved in implementing this component. Ultimately, we are all responsible for creating the organisation in which we want to work.

Would you like to share anything else on this topic?

Buildings and facilities form our physical campus as a working environment. This is extremely important, but at the same time it is only one aspect of how and where we work, and we are also bound by our surroundings. We therefore deliberately take a broad approach to this theme; we create the campus as a working environment together. It is not just about the building, but also about how we meet each other, work together and take responsibility for the collective.
