Rafal Matuszewski elected to the Board of the Young Academy of Europe

Rafal Matuszewski has been unanimously elected to the Board of the Young Academy of Europe.

The YAE is an independent pan-European initiative of outstanding early-career researchers, dedicated to promoting scientific excellence and interdisciplinary collaboration, while actively contributing to science policy across European Union Member States and Associated Countries and helping shape a European science agenda for the coming decades. Matuszewski has been a Fellow of the Young Academy of Europe since 2025. In his new role as a member of its Board, he will work with fellow Board members to help steer the Academy’s strategic activities and advance its mission.

Emphasise the importance of science

Matuszewski: ‘I feel truly honoured to be elected to the YAE Board. At a time of financial constraints, shifting priorities, growing pressures on academic freedom, and increasing questioning of the value of scholarship and the role of the university in society, it is more important than ever to multiply our efforts to make the case for their importance and impact. As the saying goes, if you are not at the table, you are probably on the menu; in this spirit, as a Board member, I hope to contribute especially to two priorities close to my heart: supporting early-career scholars and advocating for the value of the Humanities in our increasingly science-dominated and technologically oriented world.’
