Controllers’ Day 2026: looking to the future together
Controllers are the colleagues responsible for the university’s financial management and oversight. During Controllers’ Day at Spui Campus, the Finance Directorate, Internal Audit, and the controllers from faculties and support services came together to receive updates on current and strategic topics.
The morning focused on ‘blockchain in 2026’: the shift from traditional administration to digitally organised trust in data and processes. Blockchain makes it possible to record information and agreements digitally in a secure and reliable way. As a result, the emphasis is shifting from checking information after the fact to building trust into digital systems and processes from the outset.
The best solutions
The afternoon session focused on knowledge valorisation: the way in which the university’s knowledge and research are used to contribute to society and the economy. European public procurement was also discussed: the rules that apply when the university purchases certain products or services. It was emphasised that procurement is not only about complying with formal rules, but also a strategic instrument for making informed choices that support quality, innovation and the best solutions.
Finance Director Karin van den Elzen reflected on a successful day: ‘It is important that, alongside their day-to-day work, our controllers are not only focused on the implementation of BAS InSite-AFAS, but are also inspired by new developments that will influence the future of our university.’
