Academic impact

If you wish to increase your academic impact and your interaction with your field, the University can support your efforts in a number of ways: from help in organising events to advice on international collaboration. We have listed the possibilities below.

National and international grants

If you wish to apply for a grant, Luris informs researchers and support staff on funding possibilities via workshops and courses, individual advice, coaching or assessing grant applications. For more information please contact the Luris Grant Development team or consult the course overview.

Publishing in Open Access

Making the results of scientific research openly available to the public (Open Access) greatly increases their impact. For advice and support on publishing in Open Access, please contact the Centre for Digital Scholarship.

Available research facilities

The University has high-quality scientific equipment and research facilities. For more information, see the research facilities per faculty and institute. To make optimal use of these facilities, you can make your research infrastructure available to other researchers via the Open Access Research Infrastructure (OARI) project. The OARI website also contains an overview of available facilities.

Partnership with other universities

Partnering and joining forces with other universities, whether at regional, national or international level, offers many opportunities to expand your academic impact.

Leiden-Delft-Erasmus

The three universities in the Province of Zuid-Holland have collaborated intensively for many years. In 2012, this partnership was formalised in the strategic Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Universites (LDE) alliance. If you wish to know more about how this alliance can support your field or research, read the online LDE magazine or contact Marianne Walgreen from the Strategy and Academic Affairs Directorate.

Dutch universities

At national level, too, there are many options for academic collaboration. In this context you can use existing networks, such as the Universities of the Netherlands, the National Science Agenda, or Digital Society, as a vehicle for your own collaboration plans. If you need advice, please contact Jacqueline Kruse at the Strategy and Academic Affairs Directorate.

European universities

Leiden University takes part in a number of international partnerships and plays an active role in the science lobby in Brussels. If you have any questions about joining, please contact Melissa Koops at the Strategy and Academic Affairs Directorate.

Collaboration with regions outside Europe

With respect to collaboration beyond European borders, Leiden University has chosen to focus on three regions:

Regions Contact persons
China Annemarie Montulet
Indonesia Marrik Bellen
Latin America & Caribbean Mara Constantinescu

International workshops

The Lorentz Center organises international workshops in all academic fields. The Center wishes to bring together researchers from various disciplines so as to increase collaboration and interaction in science.

Organise events

If you wish to organise a scientific event, conference or other meeting, please consult the University’s events agency. For additional information on catering and events, see here.

Bibliometrics and altmetrics

Bibliometrics and altmetrics are practical methods that can be used to map out impact quantitatively. For more information, see the University library website. The Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS) offers training programmes in bibliometrical analyses in research.
