Where can I refer my student?
As a teacher, you are usually the first point of contact for your students, and you will sometimes receive questions or requests that you cannot help them with yourself. On this page, you’ll find an overview of the parts of the organization to which you can refer your students, depending on their question.
Study advice
The study advisers of the programme are the first point of contact for most student questions. For anything related to study planning (BSA, adjusted study plan, study and examination regulations, elective space) and personal circumstances (disability, well‑being, etc.), they provide information, advice, and/or guidance. They can also help students find the right referral, for example to the Board of Examiners, the student counsellor, the student psychologists, and other support services offered by the university.
Would you like to help a student yourself but aren’t sure how? It can also be useful for lecturers to contact the study advisers for consultation and advice.
Education Service Centre (OSC)
For administrative and educational logistics questions, you can refer students to the Education Service Centre (OSC). The OSC handles the registration of study and teaching data and manages the faculty’s supporting systems. It is also partly responsible for the organization of teaching. If students have questions about enrolment (programme, courses, work groups, exams, etc.), grade registration in uSis, or their timetable, you can advise them to send an email to osc.fgga@fgga.leidenuniv.nl.
Board of Examiners
For many official requests, exemptions, or complaints, students need to contact the programme’s Board of Examiners. If you’re unsure whether it’s appropriate to refer the student there, or if the student has questions about the procedure, it’s better to send them to the study adviser first.

If a student strongly disagrees with you decision as an examiner (since a grade is considered a formal assessment decision), or a decision of the Board of Examiners, they can appeal by submitting a formal complaint to the Examination Appeals Board (CBE).
Student representatives
For some student questions or concerns—for example about programme, faculty, or university policies—it may be helpful to point out that they are officially represented in several participation bodies. Students can contact the student members of their Programme Committee (OLC) or of the university or faculty council to share their perspective.
