In 2024, when ScienceGuide threatened to disappear “due to a lack of financial perspective”, the UBL took out a collective subscription to this publication for the entire university community, partly at the request of university employees. In 2024, such a collective annual subscription cost €4,905 (incl. VAT). Today, the UBL was informed by ScienceGuide that renewal of the subscription for Leiden University was available at €10,355 (incl. VAT) on an annual basis, more than doubling the costs.

To our regret, we have had to decide to cancel the collective subscription due to this substantial cost increase that was implemented without any consultation and due to the financial cutbacks that also affect the UBL.

This means that employees and students who had registered to gain access to ScienceGuide via this collective subscription will soon no longer be able to use it. ScienceGuide offers the option of taking out an individual subscription.
