Watch the video on the original website orImagine a mountain of plastic waste. On top stand three percussionists, their instruments crafted from plastic waste, accompanied by Esther Kentin, project leader of the Leiden Advocacy Project on Plastic (LAPP). Welcome to Soundtrack of the Plastic Age: an audiovisual reflection on the era of plastic we live in.
Together with Studium Generale and Esther Kentin, the Rogier De Nijs Group invites you on a journey to environmental hot spots – places where the consequences of our consumer-driven society are very visible. Through a powerful blend of driving percussion, original soundscapes, and striking video projections, this concert submerges you in music that is as energetic and gripping as it is delicate and introspective.
Before the performance, Esther will introduce the work of LAPP: a pro bono initiative where students support NGOs such as the Plastic Soup Foundation and the Waddenvereniging with legal questions related to plastic pollution. How can civil society and NGOs use the law to demand action? How can we improve enforcement of existing environmental laws? Which measures can be improved and how do we accomplish this?
