From soft drinks to beer cask: ‘De Fusie is a place for everyone’
The glasses have been rinsed, the furniture is in place and the six-member board is ready. A very short time to go before De Fusie opens its doors in the Gorlaeus Building. The brand new bar promises to be a nice addition to the social life on campus. ‘We don't just want to run a cosy bar, but also bridge various communities within the faculty.’
After weeks of testing and trials, the board of De Fusie is eager to get started. Thursday 16 May is finally the day. ‘Over the past few weeks, we have organized small trial drills. Meanwhile, we are completely ready for the grand opening and can be fully up and running,' says chairman Nikos Lamens.
A bar with a good climate and fine culture
The board of De Fusie consists of six mathematics, physics, computer science and BPS students. Many of them move on from a role on a committee or the board of the FooBar. ‘It is a nice challenge for all of us to operate an even bigger bar in De Fusie with a good climate and a nice culture,’ adds maths student and treasurer Eeke van Leeuwen. ‘We enjoy regularly spending an evening behind the bar. We also enjoy creating a meeting place for both students and staff.’
Thursday drinks day
De Fusie is open every Thursday from 5pm to 11pm for all students and staff of our faculty. They can come here for a glass of soda, as well as a beer or wine and a tasty snack. On other working days, the bar is open on request only. ‘Institutes and study associations can make a request for a drink, activity, or meeting,’ explains secretary Randy den Braven. ‘Only one contact person per institute and study association can make a request. For get-togethers from the university and the faculty itself, we are a bit easier on this.’
Hard work is rewarded
Up to and including the summer, the board members can dot the i's and cross the t's, but from September it will be bang on. ‘From that period onwards, the bar will be busy. We are very much looking forward to that,' says Eeke. ‘We hope our hard work will be rewarded with a well-run bar with a nice assortment. De Fusie must become a bar where there is room for everyone, that's what we are going to work for.’
