New steering group brings internationalisation into focus

15 April 2026

Globalisation and internationalisation are inextricably linked with Dutch society. Universities operate within an international context where offering international programmes and collaboration with foreign universities is a given. Leiden Law School is no exception.

To better coordinate and align these initiatives and to set clear priorities, the Faculty Board has established a Steering Group on Internationalisation. As members, four academics have been appointed who have extensive experience with internationalisation and knowledge of the faculty.

Why a steering group?
We already collaborate with foreign universities, offer international programmes, and take part in networks and projects. However, the impact of these activities can be strengthened through better coordination and more effective use of resources. The steering group has therefore been asked to set out a clear and forward‑looking strategy.

Assignment
The steering group will analyse our current international activities and collaborations, identifying opportunities for improvements or focus. Using this information, it will proceed to formulate concrete recommendations for the Faculty Board. The steering group expects to complete this assignment by October 2026.

Aspects of internationalisation
Recommendations will focus on various aspects of internationalisation, including education, staff and student mobility, strategic partnerships and networks, Advanced master’s programmes, and ‘internationalisation at home’. This latter aspect, for example, is about passing on international skills to our students. With greater coherence, visibility and strategic direction, we can take internationalisation within our faculty to the next level.
