Information events

It’s not easy to choose the right course of study for you. Leiden University is a strong believer in offering comprehensive orientation, so we organise information activities all year round.

These activities allow prospective students to get to know the university and the different programmes and to experience what it’s like to attend a lecture. You can find more information and activity dates in the recruitment calendar.

Open Day

Pupils who still have no idea which programme would suit them best, as well as those who can’t decide among a lot of different courses, are welcome to come to our Open Day. This event gives pupils the opportunity to find out more about all our bachelor’s degree programmes. 45-minute programme presentations will give them a good idea of things like the modules, teaching methods and graduates’ employment options. The information fair gives them the chance to get more general information about the university, studying and student life, as well as to chat to students, lecturers and advisers.

Experience Days

Pupils who are torn between two programmes – or two universities – can come to Leiden for an Experience Day in the programme or programmes they are considering. It’s a great way for pupils to immerse themselves in a programme, and it can confirm or even change their study choice.
The pupils receive assignments beforehand to help them prepare for the lectures or seminars they will attend.

Online experience

Several programmes also offer the option of gaining online study experience. Pupils who can’t make it to an information event get the chance to take part in online lessons and experience what it’s like to study. They finish the experience with a more realistic idea of the course.

Student-for-a-day event

Sometimes pupils are already practically certain that they want to study a specific programme, but they still want to attend a real live lecture just to make absolutely sure. That’s where the Student-for-a-day event comes in. A student on the programme in question guides a small group of pupils to one or two first-year lectures. No further information is provided about the programme on that day, so it’s a good idea for pupils to attend an Open Day or Experience Day first.
