Money Matters: Financial Distress and Sustainable Change
- Wednesday 12 April 2023

- Spanish Steps
In this current cost of living crisis, the financial burdens students face are even more prominent, especially for students from socio-economically and disadvantaged backgrounds.
Most students take on part-time jobs to finance their studies and make ends meet while international students with a non-EEA passport struggle to even find a job. These financial pressures have major impacts not only on the study progress and performance but also on their personal well-being.
What financial difficulties do students encounter? How do these impact their studies and social life? How can educational institutions create personal financial support to alleviate burdens and stresses that students experience? And how do we implement institutional and sustainable change to reduce financial stress on students and accommodate them through their studies?
Many students face financial hardships but may not always feel comfortable discussing them because of the taboo around the topic of money. During this panel we aim to raise more awareness about the impact of financial challenges on the study and well-being and discuss what support and best practices are available to ease the financial burdens. We will talk with a lecturer on how to accommodate students through teaching, student deans who advise among others on financial matters and students who will share their personal experiences.
