Misinformation and disinformation affect our daily lives and national politics. Using our social identities, emotions, and cognitive biases, they spread through the social networks that connect us, often facilitated by technology such as deepfakes and social media.

On 26 May (09:00–13:00), Ili Ma and Vincent Traag will organise a thematic session on mis- and disinformation at the Living Lab. The session aims to explore opportunities for collaboration across the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences.

During the session, several themes will be discussed, including mental health, social media, AI, polarisation, and interventions to mitigate misinformation. All researchers at FSW are welcome to join.

To mitigate the impact of mis- and disinformation, collaboration across social science subdisciplines is essential. Understanding why people—including youth—believe, share, and act on false or misleading information requires integrating insights on trust, social influence, polarisation, political identity, and communication.

By combining these perspectives, researchers can help design and evaluate evidence-based interventions, education, and policies that strengthen societal resilience.
