Thecla: Equal to the Apostles? The Construction and Reception of Female Religious Identity in the Figure of Thecla across Text, Image, and Cultic Practice
Centering itself within the debate regarding the figure of Saint Thecla of Iconium, this research analyzes how her controversial religious identity was shaped within early Christianity. Through text, image, and cultic practices the study explores whether her radical character was ‘domesticated’ over the centuries to fit the ecclesiastical hierarchy, or whether she continued to constitute a powerful and independent model of female religious leadership.

Coins in the Cabinet: Uncovering the Roman provincial coins of Baron van Westreenen
This presentation discusses my internship at Rijksmuseum Meermanno in The Hague, where I researched and catalogued over 1,100 Roman provincial coins from the collection of Baron van Westreenen. It explores how the systematic study of this largely unpublished collection revealed both remarkable individual objects and new insights into nineteenth-century collecting and numismatic scholarship.

Fear in the Public Sphere: Maintaining Democracy, Identity and Stability in Fourth-Century Athens
The remarkable internal stability of fourth-century Athens is something that has been the subject of significant scholarly interest, given the series of disasters that had shaken the polis at the end of the fifth century. In my thesis, I argue that Athenian public discourse developed a culture of fear over the fourth century that discouraged the questioning of the polis’ institutions.
