Carlijn Lems Young Star Award 2020, Runner-up

The Young Star Award is awarded annually to a student who completed his or her bachelor’s thesis at the Faculty of Science of Leiden University. The prize was installed by Prof. Ewine van Dishoeck in 2019 and consists of a prize of 2,500 euros. Each of the bachelor’s programmes at our Faculty may nominate a student and from the 8 nominees a jury selects the winner based on the quality of the thesis and the academic talent of the candidate.

Carlijn Lems, graduate of our bachelor programme Bio-Farmaceutische Wetenschappen and current student of our master programme Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences was selected as one of the 4 top students. She provided an excellent pitch in front of the jury about her bachelor research project. The differences between the winner and the runner-up were minimal this year. It was a really close call and Carlijn was formally granted the title "Young Star Award 2020, Runner-up". We are extremely proud of her!
