Introducing...Facility Manager Alexander van Drooge

Recently, Alexander van Drooge started working at Leiden Law School as Facility manager. Since his previous position was interim service manager, he is no stranger to our faculty. In this position he had already worked at nearly all faculties of Leiden University as an employee of the UFB (University Facility Management).

In his role as Facility Manager, Alexander looks at what is necessary to create and maintain a pleasant workplace and place to study for employees and students. This way, he indirectly contributes to the results of all students and staff.

Alexander: 'I'm involved in various projects. Like now, for example, I'm working on adjustments in the field of sound insulation on the fourth floor. With a number of parties, I'm also investigating how we can best realise sockets in the seminar rooms. At the same time, I'm involved in broader tasks, such as energy consumption and safety within the building.'

'You have to deal with many different interests and parties. Sometimes, that creates a lot of work. So, it's really important to keep an overview on everything. Sometimes, I notice that not everyone knows what my job involves exactly. For example, I'm sometimes asked to tackle ICT problems or am asked why a room hasn't been cleaned properly. In that case I refer them to the right party.

What I like most about this position is the creativity and independence. I'm allowed to think creatively and come up with solutions for the challenges concerning facilities at the KOG building and the Old Observatory. My goal is to create a pleasant work and study environment for all. That gives me a lot of energy.'
