A clear compass: LUMC develops PhD Thesis Framework for PhD candidates

It is not always clear to PhD candidates what their thesis requirements are. This causes uncertainty about expectations and can lead to delays. The LUMC has therefore developed the PhD Thesis Framework for PhD candidates at the Faculty of Medicine.

The PhD Thesis Framework provides clear guidelines about what a thesis in medical sciences should consist of. The emphasis is on sharing and on quality rather than quantity of articles. More attention is also paid to collaboration and the other contributions PhD candidates make in and alongside their PhD research. This is entirely in line with Leiden University’s Academia in Motion movement for open science and recognition & rewards.

This initiative can serve as inspiration to other faculties within and outside Leiden University. All materials are available through the Open Science Framework.
