Brainstorm Oss = done! Contribute to new Field School location

20 March 2026

By 2035, the Faculty of Archaeology hopes to have found a new location for the annual Field School for first‑year Archaeology students. Although the municipality of Oss has granted permission for continued excavations for the next five years, it is expected that by the end of this period, hardly any archaeological finds will remain. After more than 80 years of excavations, Oss has proven to be an exceptionally rich area, but empty is empty. Oss is finished.

This means the time has come to start thinking about a new Field School location. To do so, we would like to draw on the expertise of our students and staff. The focus will also shift more toward future‑proof fieldwork. For example, we will increasingly use machine learning to predict archaeological sites and Virtual Reality to train excavation skills.

To kick things off, we are organizing a brainstorming session. Would you like to participate? Then please fill out the form.

Both staff and students are warmly invited to contribute their ideas.

Kind regards, The Field Research Education Unit
