Network maintenance in the evening and at night 21-25 September: connections may be briefly interrupted
Are you working in the evening or at night between 21 and 25 September? Please bear in mind that network connections may be briefly interrupted. Save your work in good time and, where possible, avoid planning work that depends on a stable network connection between 22.00 and 07.00 hrs.
When might you experience disruption?
The work will take place in the evenings and at night from 21 to 25 September, each time between 22.00 and 07.00 hrs. During this maintenance, brief interruptions to the network connection may occur.
What might you temporarily be unable to do, or find difficult to do?
During the maintenance, network connections may be briefly interrupted. This means you may temporarily experience disruption when using services that depend on the University network or internet connection. For example, this may affect:
- logging in to or working with University systems;
- opening or saving files on network drives or shared storage environments;
- using campus wifi, such as Eduroam;
- accessing the internet or external websites from campus;
- using digital teaching and study services if these depend on the network connection at that time.
The interruptions are expected to be brief. We advise you not to plan work between 22.00 and 07.00 hrs that requires a stable connection, such as online assessments, live teaching, large uploads or downloads, or work that cannot be saved in between.
Please note: services such as Brightspace, uSis and other digital services are not necessarily undergoing maintenance themselves, but they may be temporarily less accessible if the network connection is interrupted.
Why is this maintenance necessary?
To keep the University network secure and reliable, the ISSC will install security updates on parts of the network infrastructure.
To minimise the impact on staff, students and teaching activities, the work will take place outside regular office hours.
