Cancelled: Strike on 10 June
Update: The strike on 10 June in Amsterdam has been cancelled due to the NS train strike. |
On 10 June, students and staff from universities across the country are protesting against the cuts to higher education. They will gather at the Dam in Amsterdam.
The Executive Board and deans support the initiative but have decided that the university will remain open. This message outlines what the strike means for staff.
University to remain open
Our buildings will remain open on 10 June. The Executive Board and deans will make every effort to ensure essential activities such as exams, PhD ceremonies and inaugural lectures go ahead as planned that day.
Inform your manager and students
University staff are free strike on 10 June. We want to do all we can to prevent young researchers from having to cancel their PhD defence or students from missing compulsory exams or practicals and consequently fall behind.
If you decide to strike, you do not need to register your absence and will receive your salary as usual. You can use your Shuttel card to travel to Amsterdam. We would appreciate you informing your manager. If your teaching will be cancelled because of the strike, please inform your students through Brightspace.
Update 4 June: Unions will arrange buses
On 10 June there's a possible strike from NS personnel, so there won't be riding any trains. That is why unions will arrange buses, leaving from Delft, Den Haag, Groningen, Leiden, Rotterdam. If you want to get a seat, please register via the FNV website. The FNV union will provide you information about locations and timetables. You don't have to be a union member to accept this offer and it's also available for students.
Compulsory practicals and exams
Students wishing to join their teaching staff in the strike are not required to attend classes on 10 June, except for compulsory practicals and exams that cannot be rescheduled. They are also responsible for catching up on missed work.
For students from the Faculty of Medicine, attendance is at their own discretion. They are also responsible for catching up on missed work. Missing compulsory classes may mean having to catch up next academic year.
Programme of the strike
The programme of the strike on Tuesday 10 June will be kept up to date in the calendar item.
