Apply for a LUF project grant for research or teaching innovation
The Leiden University Fund’s (LUF) Committee for Academic Expenditure awards grants for research and teaching projects in various academic disciplines. The LUF intends to use these grants to support young researchers at Leiden University who are just beginning their careers.
Do you want to apply for a LUF project grant for your research or teaching innovation? The autumn 2025 LUF grant round for research and teaching innovation projects is open. You have until 15 October (23:59 hours) to submit your pre-application via the (updated) grant portal. For information on this round and eligibility, please visit the LUF website. Once the deadline has passed, the Committee for Academic Expenditure will review the submissions and decide which applicants to invite to submit a full application. You can apply for a maximum grant of 35,000 euros.
Who is eligible?
Researchers max. 5 years after their PhD who are affiliated with Leiden University or LUMC with a paid appointment (minimum 0.4 fte). In some cases, researchers who obtained their PhD more than five years ago may also be eligible to apply (see grant conditions for details). PhD candidates who will obtain their PhD before 1 July 2026 are also eligible.
