Help increase the impact of the National Student Survey

26 January 2026

The National Student Survey (NSE) has started again. This is the opportunity for students to share their experiences and directly contribute to the quality of our education and facilities. For Leiden University, the NSE is an indispensable feedback tool.

The results of the NSE are also very important for prospective students. They are published in the Student Choice Guide and can lead to a programme being awarded the designation of ‘top programme’. However, this is only possible if there are enough respondents for each programme.

In the Humanities, it remains a challenge every year to obtain a representative number of completed surveys for all programmes, partly due to the small number of students in some programmes or because students spend part of their studies abroad. That is why we are calling on you as a lecturer to actively inform your students about the NSE and encourage them to complete the survey. It takes just 12 minutes on average to complete the survey.

An effective approach is to set aside fifteen minutes at the end of your lecture and have students complete the survey together. This significantly increases the response rate. You can use this PowerPoint slide for this purpose.

If you are open to this, please contact your education coordinator to coordinate this for each programme.

Thank you in advance for your help!
