Consent is Key Week: preventing sexual misconduct among students
During Consent is Key Week (2-6 November 2026), Leiden University is highlighting the importance of preventing sexual misconduct among students. The week is part of the university’s Preventing Sexual Misconduct project. With its focus on consent, the week highlights the support services available and features three student activities: a workshop, a pub quiz, and a talk.
If you know students who have been affected by sexual misconduct or are interested in this topic, let them know about the support and activities available. If you would like to learn more about preventing and discussing sexual misconduct, take the staff course Standing Together Against Sexual Misconduct at Leiden University.
Student sexual misconduct
At Leiden University, we believe everyone should feel safe expressing their boundaries and trust that these will be respected.
This is not always the reality for students. National research by Statistics Netherlands (CBS) has shown that more than half of female students (52%) and almost one in five male students (19%) experience sexual misconduct during their studies. Furthermore, 64% of students do not know where they can report sexual violence at their institution. Consent is Key Week raises awareness of this issue.
