This training is for all managers at Leiden University (academic staff and support staff), particularly those starting in their role.

Why this training?

As a manager at Leiden University, you operate in a complex and dynamic environment—whether in education, research or support services. Your role involves a wide range of responsibilities: from setting direction, managing workload and financial resources, to conducting important conversations, developing vision, and fostering collaboration and a safe working environment.

This places significant demands on your leadership—both in guiding individuals and supporting teams. This onboarding helps you understand what is expected of you and how to shape your leadership in your own way.

Programme

In this interactive session, you will become acquainted with Leiden University’s vision on leadership, reflect on your role and responsibilities within the employee journey, and explore the different roles you fulfil as a leader, coach, manager and expert. You will also gain insight into the available support, such as training and coaching.

This session also offers ample opportunity to meet fellow managers, share experiences and talk about how you shape and practice leadership in your day-to-day work.

This interactive session is in-person and part of the broader onboarding programme for managers and complements the online onboarding module. This module provides essential practical information for all (new) managers and should be completed prior to attending the session.
