Professional Communication – Asking for, Giving, and Receiving Feedback

Collaboration becomes easier when you can identify what is going well, as well as what could be improved. Yet, many people find giving, asking for, or receiving feedback nerve-wracking or uncomfortable.

Method
Workshop

In this workshop, you will explore why feedback sometimes feels uncomfortable and what makes it actually helpful and educational.

You will learn the difference between your perception, your interpretation, and the effect on yourself. You will also practice formulating feedback so that the other person understands what you mean without immediately becoming defensive. You will also reflect on asking for feedback or advice: when is it useful, what exactly do you want to know, and how do you ensure that you actually benefit from it? Attention is paid to real-life situations, such as agreements not being kept, being bothered by someone's communication style, or irritation in the collaboration.

The workshop is experience-based: you will practice with your own case studies and can optionally further deepen your skills with additional exercises, such as the avatar in New Heroes.

What will you gain from this?

After this workshop:

  • You will ask for feedback or advice in a more targeted way, so that you receive information you can actually use;
  • You will be able to give feedback based on concrete behavior, your interpretation, and the effect on you, allowing the other person to receive it better;
  • You will be more aware of what makes feedback work or not in practice;
  • You will be better able to handle feedback that is unclear, unexpected, or difficult;
  • You will have practiced feedback conversations, so that you can apply this with more confidence in your work.

This workshop helps you view feedback not as something daunting or personal, but as a practical tool to improve collaboration and communication.
