"Gatekeeper" refers to the key role you can play for someone who is so stuck in their thoughts that they no longer see a way out of life. Research and experience show that people with suicidal thoughts often do not talk about them and do not seek help quickly, even though we know that talking about these thoughts actually helps and provides relief. As a gatekeeper, you can be the person who is trusted and who makes it possible to discuss these thoughts, without taking on the role of a therapist.

This training course from 113 Suicide Prevention teaches you:

  • How to deal with signs of suicidal tendencies or a suspicion thereof.
  • How to discuss suicidal thoughts using concrete tools.
  • How to ask questions in a responsible and phased manner and what the limits are.
  • How to refer someone to professional help.

If you have any questions about the training course and registration, please email staffwellbeing@sea.leidenuniv.nl.
