The intersection of protection, Housing, Land and Property (HLP) rights and climate change is emerging as a critical area of concern, with both immediate and long-term implications for the protection and well-being of communities and significant implications for the future of humanitarian and development programming. Protection actors need to urgently confront and integrate the multifaceted challenges posed by climate change, including in relation to damage/loss of HLP and climate-induced displacement, in order to understand, mitigate and respond to resulting protection risks and support the upholding of HLP rights in emergencies.

This being a nascent area, there currently aren't any training resources for humanitarian practitioners focused on the theme.

To fill this gap, IOM, together with a Dutch digital production agency, is developing an interactive e-training module on Protection, Climate Change, and HLP Rights. This e-training module will be part of an existing series of HLP-focused modules which comprise the HLP in Displacement e-Course: an Interactive Experience

This roundtable discussion aims to discuss with LUC students research findings relevant to IOM work, and fine-tune the scenarios and key take-away messages for IOM’s e-course module.
