How can we share our research beyond academia, learn from colleagues across faculties and find new ways to work together?

Join us for the kick-off of the interfaculty theme Languages, Cultures and Worldviews, bringing together researchers and colleagues from Archaeology, Humanities and Social and Behavioural Sciences.

We'll hear practical examples of how researchers share their work with wider audiences, exchange experiences and explore opportunities to work together across faculties.

The kick-off is also a chance to get to know each other and discuss what we want to do with this interfaculty theme. We're keen to hear your ideas, what you're already working on and where you see opportunities or could use some support. This will help us shape the activities and connections we want to build in the coming years.

Programme

14:00–14:15 | Welcome & Introduction | Living Lab 1B.01

A short introduction to Languages, Cultures and Worldviews and what we hope to achieve through this interfaculty theme.

14:15–15:00 | Three Perspectives: Sharing Research Beyond Academia | Living Lab 1B.01

How do we make research accessible to people outside academia? And what can we learn from different approaches?

Three speakers share their experiences of communicating research, working with others and reaching different audiences.

Timo Epping | The podcast maker's perspective

How do you turn research into a story people want to listen to? Podcast maker Timo Epping shares his experience of working with researchers, making complex topics accessible and reaching audiences beyond academia.

Tim van de Meerendonk | The researcher's perspective

What is it like to develop a podcast as a researcher? Tim van de Meerendonk shares his experience, from developing the idea and working with others to the practical challenges and lessons learned along the way.

Nathalie Borst | The research communication perspective

How can we make research more visible and accessible beyond academia? Nathalie Borst shares practical insights from her work in communication and marketing at the Faculty of Humanities, exploring ways to reach wider audiences and support researchers in sharing their work.

15:10–15:55 | Outside Our Bubble: Exploring Opportunities Together | Living Lab 1B.01

What are we already doing across our faculties, and where could we work together?

In small, mixed groups, we'll share experiences and discuss opportunities for collaboration and research outreach. What works well? What challenges do we face? And where could we benefit from each other's knowledge, networks or support?

We'd also like to hear what you would find useful from this interfaculty theme, so we can take those ideas into account as we plan future activities.

15:55–16:15 | Bringing Ideas Together | Living Lab 1B.01

We'll share the main ideas from the group discussions and look at where there are common interests, opportunities and practical needs.

16:15–16:25 | What's Next? | Living Lab 1B.01

A short look at what's next for Languages, Cultures and Worldviews, and how you can stay involved.

16:25–17:30 | Networking Drinks | 3rd floor ath the Institute of Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology

Time for drinks, meeting colleagues from other faculties and continuing the conversations.

Join us!

Whether you're already working across disciplines, faculties, interested in sharing your research with wider audiences or simply curious about what colleagues in other faculties are doing, we'd love to see you there.

This kick-off is a first opportunity to meet, exchange ideas and explore what we can do together. Your input will help us decide where to focus our efforts and how to develop the community around Languages, Cultures and Worldviews.
