What does Islamist rule look like?
Joana Cook, Assistant Professor of Terrorism and Political Violence, talks about Islamist parties increasingly taking power in the last four decades in an interview with ABC News.
Joana Cook first talks about what Islamic governance is and what the Islamic state entails. 'It is a model of governance that is distinct and opposed to legislative systems that we would often see in the West'. Additionally, she mentions that there are various actors who pursue the Islam in their own way.
Cook mentions that one can distinguish 2 types of actors: constitutional actors and violent actors. The difference between these actors is that the constitutional actors would pursue their goals through legal means, while the violent actors can be considered as using illegal means to pursue their goal.
