GenAI and education

The rapid emergence of GenAI use gives rise to many questions and challenges with regard to our teaching practice. On this page, you can find a variety of resources offered by the faculty, university and beyond that can be helpful for you as a teacher to meet these challenges, whether it concers AI literacy, (re)designing your course, or educational innovation with GenAI. The information on the Teachers platform is continually updated in line with university and faculty policies, and other relevant developments.

GenAI in education - where to start?

To familiarize yourself with the basics of the technology and its risks, opportunities and practical applications in the context of teaching and learning, LLInC has developed the e-module AI Literacy for teachers which you can access here: LLM Didactic Guide. The university library also offers introductory information at Getting started with AI at Leiden University. This central university information page offers the most recent information on university policy and developments regarding AI in education. This page also includes a guideline for teachers. More general guidelines for responsible AI use for Leiden University staff are also available.

At FGGA, we have developed student guidelines which are added to all Brightspace courses. You can make these guidelines visible and use the scale of AI use to communicate with students about your expectations with regard to assessments in your course. In addition, our faculty has established the framework Principles for Working with Generative AI within FGGA to provide fundamental guidelines for the use of this technology by staff. More specifically for education, key principles, expectations and responsibilities are outlined in An FGGA approach to GenAI in Education
