Kaltura Live Room to be removed as of 1 August 2025
Kaltura Live Room will no longer be available as of 1 August 2025. This is a tool that you can use for online lectures, seminars and meetings. As of the 2025-2026 academic year, Zoom will be the designated video conferencing tool for online teaching.
The Kaltura video portal will continue to be available, meaning that you will still be able to access all recordings made in Kaltura Live Room after 1 August.
Why is Kaltura Live Room being replaced?
After a tender process Leiden University (including the LUMC) has chosen Zoom as the new videoconferencing software for its teaching. This means that as of 1 August 2025 Kaltura Live Room will no longer be available.
Is Zoom safe to use?
There have been concerns about data security with Zoom. In collaboration with SURF, Zoom has therefore made important changes. SURF’s latest privacy check confirms that Zoom is suitable for use with confidential data in education.
What will happen with documents in Kaltura Live Room?
Any documents saved in Kaltura Live Room (e.g. PowerPoint presentations and quizzes) will no longer be accessible after 1 August. Recordings of meetings will continue to be available in the Kaltura video platform.
If you have documents in Kaltura that you wish to save or reuse, you can download and save them to your computer.
