Crisis Middle East: message from Executive Board and support
Dear colleagues,
The recent developments in the Middle East affect us all. As the Executive Board, we are following the situation with great concern. We realise that some of us are touched by the situation more deeply than others - because family, friends and loved ones live in the region, or because you feel personally connected to the situation. We want you to know that our thoughts are with you.
In times of tension and uncertainty, we find it important that we are there for each other, respecting everyone's feelings and perspectives. If you need support, practical help, or someone to talk to, be aware that you can turn to various colleagues within Leiden University. They can help you to determine the help you need, whether this is a listening ear or tailored support in your study or work situation. Don't hesitate to get in touch. You are not alone.

Staff in the region
The university has already contacted staff and students in the Middle East. Are you in the region but haven't yet been contacted? Send an email to veiligheidszaken@bb.leidenuniv.nl.
Not in the region but affected by the situation?
If you feel that you need additional support, our welfare team can help. They can provide support for psychosocial issues that are affecting your ability to function at work or in your personal life. Your line manager and/or HR adviser can put you in touch with them.
Support outside the university
If you would prefer to speak confidentially with someone outside the university, Luisterlijn can help. You can contact them 24/7 by phone, email or online chat.
Support for managers
If you would like to address this topic within your team or have noticed it is causing tension among colleagues, our coaches can help. Contact coaching@bb.leidenuniv.nl to be connected with the right coach.
Support for students
We also have support for students. If you notice that the developments in Iran are affecting your students, please refer them to the support that is available for them.
